The Amramp Los Angeles team installed two wheelchair ramps to provide accessibility to the YWCA Transitional Housing facility in Hollywood. This will help the homeless population as they transition from the streets to temporary housing. At the YWCA women will receive counseling and assistance to help them transition to permanent housing.
Amramp installed commercial commercially compliant access ramps to this 1925 building from the exterior on Lodi Avenue. Using a 25 foot “L” shaped ramp the Amramp team placed a 5×7’ platform at the upper stairs, 15’ of 48” wide ramping and an intermediate platform and a custom 5’ ramp.
The housing units are reached by a 24’ Long, 5’ wide ramp system. The ramp travels from the brick patio over the stairs to the housing units above. No elevator was possible in this historic building.
The YWCA Studio Club was built by renowned architect, Julia Morgan who designed Hearst Castle and Mary Morse Hall at Mills College. Mrs. Cecile B. DeMille helped found the building to provide housing support in the Hollywood area for young actresses trying to make their way into the movie industry. The 1925 building is on the Register of Historic Buildings.
Over the years the YWCA Studio Club served 10,000 women including celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Rita Moreno, Donna Reed, Sharon Tate and Barbara Eden.
This investment is part of the City of Los Angeles’ A Bridge Home, Mayor Garcetti’s program to address homelessness.
Amramp installs accessibility ramps, lifts and other accessibility equipment throughout the California area at businesses, residences, schools and institutions.
Amramp is the leading company in the United States specializing in modular steel wheelchair ramps, offering sturdy, customizable ramps for disability access that enable the aging and disabled population to remain in their homes with independence and mobility. Ramps can be installed temporarily for short or long term needs without damaging the housing structure as they are not a permanent modification to the home. Amramp products comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and are available for sale or rental with no minimum time frame and no ramp size restrictions.
Amramp also installs Vertical Platform Lifts which are used where the length of a ramp might be impractical. Portable wheelchair showers are used when a client cannot utilize the shower or tub facility and does not want to remodel the bathroom.
Amramp has been providing accessibility ramps, vertical platform lifts, stair chairs and wheelchair showers in Southern and Northern California since May, 2007 and has eight employees. Warehouse facilities are located in Gardena and Watsonville, CA. See www.amramp.com/laoc and www.amramp.com/norcal.
