The Show Must Go On

When the Boston Lyric Opera Company staged a Leonard Bernstein musical inside an ice rink in the city’s famed North End, Amramp ensured “the show must go on” by delivering an ADA-compliant access solution for the venue in just a few days. The opera company, which had built a stage and recreated a 1950’s-era nightclub on top of the rink’s ice surface for this temporary “site-specific” event, found out a week before opening night that the site had to have access for individuals with mobility challenges.

According to Production/Technical Director Anna Labykina, Amramp’s quick response and rapid installation of a ramp system for access into and out of the venue assured that the show’s dress rehearsals weren’t delayed and enabled the opera company to welcome its audience on opening night as planned.

“Two days before we were scheduled to have people come into the space for a dress rehearsal, we found out that we absolutely had to have a secondary ADA-compliant exit from the space,” Miss Labykina said. “The only way to make that possible within the current setup was to…put in a ramp that goes up and over the rink’s boards. We found Amramp and we were lucky enough that someone was able to come out on the day that we found this out to do an estimate for us and a walk-through.”

She added: “Our experience with Amramp was absolutely brilliant. The communication with them has been great, we’re very happy with it.”
